I’m looking for answers. The question is along the lines of “what’s the reality of our existence”. That might not be the best question but it’s the best I have so far.
I’ve decided to look at different theories and groups and comment on what works for me, and what doesn’t. In my 70 years I’ve already crossed a lot off my list, for example organized religion of any kind, christian, muslim, etc. They’re off the list, so the question remains, does anyone else have answers worth exploring?
I came across a group called Unity Earth while I was exploring The Global Consciousness Project at Princeton.edu. They linked to their FB page and that listed Awakening To Humanity’s Sacred Mission: An International Symposium. It was a multi-session symposium, here is a link to their 3rd session.
Another group that is part of the Unity Earth movement and posted the symposium live stream is Sine Network. They explained the symposium in these words, “This uniquely inspired online global event is primarily dedicated to hosting the vision of Ervin Laszlo and his powerful call to “Awakening Humanity’s Sacred Mission.” The international Symposium is a collaboration sponsored by Purpose Earth, produced by UNITY EARTH in deep partnership with the Source of Synergy Foundation, Laszlo Institute, The Holomovement, One World, Unify, Light on Light, SINE Network, Hubcast Media, Connection Field, Good of the Whole, and other global organizations.”
What initially got me on the thread was interest in Ervin Laszlo’s Akashic field theory “László’s 2004 book, Science and the Akashic Field: An Integral Theory of Everything posits a field of information as the substance of the cosmos. Using the Sanskrit and Vedic term for “space”, Akasha, he calls this information field the “Akashic field” or “A-field”. He posits that the “quantum vacuum” (see Vacuum state) is the fundamental energy and information-carrying field that informs not just the current universe, but all universes past and present (collectively, the Akashic records or “[(akashic field theory)]”). László believes that such an informational field can explain why our universe appears to be fine-tuned so as to form galaxies and conscious lifeforms; and why evolution is an informed, not random, process. He believes that the hypothesis solves several problems that emerge from quantum physics, especially nonlocality and quantum entanglement.” [from Wiki]
I’m beginning to believe in a connection to past (genetic memory, ancestral memory, akashic records) and present (noosphere, collective unconscious, super-conscious, global brain) among living things. The discoveries in quantum physics are starting to unlock new thinking as we realize we don’t have all the answers, even understanding something as seemingly mundane as our own consciousness eludes science.
So what did I think of the groups involved with the symposium, Humanity’s Sacred Mission – I think they’re sincere people but it’s not for me. They struck me as sort of a cross between ageing hippies, eco-feminists, Gaia devotees and fringe elements. Reciting poems, calling each other brother/sister, even the use of the term “sacred”, those were turn-offs. Great for some people but not me. I didn’t like the leader/member sort of structure either, I’m not into that, I’m looking for something more P2P, peer to peer. As the symposium grandly described itself, “Fifty of the world’s greatest thought-leaders and change-makers gathered over three days, with thousands of participants.”
There were some speakers who did resonate with me more than others, but they were in the minority. One speaker who appeared more business oriented and relatable was Linda Bjork. She describes her connection with Unity Earth, “Member of the Board of Directors and Core Group of UNITY EARTH — a global network on a mission to accelerate the realization of unity and peace on Earth. A network of networks, a unifier of unifiers, UNITY EARTH is inspired by the world’s wisdom traditions. Born out of the desire to meet global-sized challenges with global-sized solutions, the network is built to amplify the reach and impact of peace-aligned organizations and individuals.”
An amusing anecdote, when searching facebook for Unity Earth the first hit was Star Trek related… a United Federation of Planets. Maybe not a bad analogy, I guess I’m more Vulcan, looking more for the logic and science, less for warm, fuzzy feelings of personal validation… and definitely not something sacred as that word has too much religious history associated with it.
The search continues…
